Back in the 1920s and 1930s, Germany considered "modern art" to be an insult. In 1937, over 5,000 works of art were confiscated including some by Chagall, Picasso, Metzinger (shown below), and van Gogh. In 1939, over 4,000 paintings and drawings (thought not to have value on the international market) were burned.
Join us for a FREE lecture on September 5, 2018 in the Heard-Craig Carriage House as Professor Clair Robertson highlights the history of Degenerate Art and shares some of the pieces that have surfaced within the last decade.
Also notable: From September 13 - September 29th, the Heard-Craig Carriage House will feature a FREE exhibit of artwork from Germany during an international art gallery exchange between the Freya Frahm Haus and the Heard-Craig. Funded by the McKinney Community Development Corporation, this gallery exchange opens doors for local DFW artists and positions the city as an emerging art hub. Please come by during the exhibit and let us know what you think.
