Get a Portfolio together.
Buy a nice portfolio tote at Hobby Lobby. Seriously. This is an investment. You want to look professional, so it is worth a little extra money. Gather up all your artwork and look it over. Put in the good peices. Confused on what you should include and what you shouldn't? Ask a teacher! Mat your artwork. Do you work in digital media? Create a print hardcopy of your portfolio.
Make it look professional.
Follow these guidelines to help you put it all together:
Going Digital.
Create a free website with all of your artwork in a digital portfolio. Impress your interviewers and schools by not only showing them your actual artwork but then pull out your smart phone or tablet to wow them with your online savvy!
Include the titles, media, and dates on all your work.
If you are going to go digital - invest. Take really good pictures, or find a friend to help you take good pictures. It doesn't matter how great your artwork is... if you you take a bad photo, you have bad art. Do it right the first time!
What do you want from your education and/or your school?
If you want to get a job in animation, look at schools that focus on animation. If you want to explore the culinary arts, find a school that offers it. Different schools offer different subjects, degrees, costs, scholarships, and opportunities.
This isn't about where your friends are going. This is about where you are going in life. Pick a school within your budget. Seek advice from teachers, parents, college advisors. Don't be afraid to ask questions and look at schools you might not have considered before!
