Chillin' With Chihuly
National Art Honor Society students hung a Chihuly-inspired artwork in the high school Performing Arts Center in 2014. Over 200 students participated in the construction of the art piece that is composed mainly of recycled materials. Students from all across the campus donated waterbottles for the project and art classes of all levels transformed the bottles into exciting pieces for the installation.
Installation Art
Matisse Installation
180 students studied Henri Matisse and ambushed the school in a beautiful display of large-scale paper installation. We covered windows and walls throughout the art department. Students got to engage in curatorial practices while organizing the installation process.
Studio Nights
Each semester I host a fun evening of art that is open to all students. Last fall we hosted an oil painting night. Kids from all across campus came and tried oil painting for the first time. Students enjoyed a night of free painting, tips, tools, pizza and group sing-a-longs. It was a great chance to come together and celebrate art.
Thanks to everyone who came!
"Keys 4/4 Kids" Painted Piano
Our International Baccalaureate Visual Arts students painted a piano for "Keys 4/4 Kids" whose mission is "To repurpose donated pianos in ways that inspire hope, promote the love of music, provide educational opportunities, and empower creative expression." IB Art students planned, designed and painted the piano as a group. We had class critiques and design discussions to foster an industry-like design team experience. We had a great time!
