Cut Paper Designs & How To Rock Them
Cut paper projects are clean and easy.
Where it came from:
- We talked about reduction printmaking, reducting the print area. You will be reducing the image area with each cut paper layer
-Stencils. Many of you have used stencils or have thought about including stencils in your artwork. This is a natural carry-over.
What you need:
3 values of paper (light, medium, dark)
x-acto knife
cutting board
glue
pencil
image you want to create
Step 1:
Find an image to use, or make your own.

Step 2:
Change the photo to black and white. "Posterize" the image down to 3 color levels. This can be done in Adobe Photoshop.

Step 3:
Pick up the middle value paper. Cut out any place that will be lighter. In the image bellow, I cut out the places where white would show through. Glue down the image onto the lightest value paper.

Step 4:
Cut out every place that is not a dark shadow. Glue the pieces down onto your artwork.
